Make the Daddy Daughter Dance a Memorable Evening

A daddy-daughter date night is something that your daughter won't ever forget. It's a night to get dressed up and spend quality time together making memories that will last a lifetime.

With our sold out Daddy Daughter Dance coming up on April 29th, we wanted to give all the dads out there some tips on how to give your daughter the royal treatment for our Princess Promenade!

Getting Ready: A few days before the dance, call your favorite florist and place an order for a wrist corsage to give you daughter as you leave for your night on the town. Use a mixture of her favorite colored-flowers or a corsage that matches her dress. Speaking of matching, find a tie that matches her dress for extra bonus points!

Do you have a group going? If you want to splurge, split the cost of a limo to drop you off at the dance to really go in style.

Dinner Before Dancing: Going out to dinner before the dance gives you a chance to talk to your daughter one-on-one. If things have been busy in your lives lately, it's a great time to slow down and really connect. Don't forget to open her car door for her!

At the Dance: Hit the dance floor, no matter how bad your moves are! This night is all about your little princess. Make sure to stop by the photo booth and make some crafts together if you need a break from dancing. Don't forget your camera, you'll want to take plenty of pictures to show the rest of your family. Bonus points - buy a disposable camera and let your daughter document the evening from her point-of-view!

We talked to a couple Westfield dads to find out what they were looking forward to at the Daddy Daughter Dance, here's what they had to say!

Francisco Contreras

"I'm looking forward to making our first Daddy Daughter event the best! I feel it's important to attend one-on-one events with my daughter because I know she will always remember those daddy moments. I'm planning to dance with my daughter and be silly like we always are anyways. I'm planning on going to Kona Grill for dinner with lots of pictures. My favorite part of spending time with my daughter is watching her smile and seeing how happy she is when she's with her daddy."

Ben Hayes

"Being a busy father of two and working full-time, I don't get to spend a lot of time alone one-on-one with my oldest daughter as much as I used to or would like. Going to these types of events help me bond and connect with my daughter on a deeper level that will hopefully last in her memories for years to come. I will probably make her dinner just for the two of us and get her some flowers with pictures taken (of course) to see her great smile light up! My favorite part about spending time with my daughter is making sure and knowing she is having a good time and having fun matter what we're doing!"

Meet the Staff at Westfield Parks

Welcome to the Westfield Parks' blog! We're excited to start this journey with you to give you an inside look at our community and the people in it. We want to use this space as a place of inspiration, entertainment and education as we highlight community members and their stories. We are so proud of our city and the people in it, now it's time to talk about it!

To start things off, we want you to know who WE are. You can put a face to our names and get to know a little bit more about why we love working for the city of Westfield! Read on to find out more...

Melody Jones, Parks and Recreation Director

"I think Westfield is an amazing place to live, work and play. I have lived in downtown Westfield for over 30 years. I raised my three children here and have enjoyed being a part of this community. Working for Westfield is my dream job. I find it very rewarding to be a part of developing our trail system, developing and improving our parks, and working with all of our community partners. I really look forward to implementing our future plans. I love being a Westfield resident and a part of this city!"

How long you have worked for Westfield: I started as the Westfield Parks and Recreation Director the year we became a City; 2008.

What I enjoy about my job: I love my job! I always say, "what I used to do as a volunteer, I now get paid to do"! Trails, Parks and hosting wonderful events is what I love. I get a great sense of pride to see the quality amenities Westfield has made possible in 10 short years.

Hobbies: Enjoying time with my family (Grandchildren) and friends. Gardening and digging in the dirt is my therapy.

Favorite Food: Anything I don’t have to cook myself

Favorite Park/Trail: How could I choose! I love each of our parks for each has a special attribute. The Monon Trail is my favorite trail…but I use the Midland Trace Trail most often because it is just steps from my house.

EMILY CLARK, Community Event Manager

"I am a twenty-something Fisher’s resident who loves life’s little details. Fresh flowers, a cute notebook, clean laundry or a friendly smile make my day! I am a homebody by nature, but grew up traveling the United States and even lived in Europe for a couple years in middle school. Having these experiences as a young child gave me a thirst for adventure and experiencing new cultures. Hands down, my best quality is being married to my high school sweetheart! Cue all the heart-eyed emojis!!"

How long you have worked for Westfield: Almost two and a half years! We joke that though I am the youngest, I am the "Senior Staff Member" because I have been here the longest.

What I enjoy about my job: Bringing people together through fresh experiences is my passion. It is my privilege to bring these experiences to Westfield. I find joy in the mixology of planning an event through creativity and analytics. I also love interacting with so many different groups in the Westfield community. Seeing old friends re-connect at a food truck, families sharing a meal on a picnic blanket and the community uniting in one of our local parks makes my job so rewarding and fulfilling.

Hobbies: I love re-purposing old pieces of furniture and antiquing! Fun fact: every single piece of furniture in my house is a gift or a re-finished treasure! I love filling my home with pieces that have a story to tell....and boy do some of mine have stories! In my spare time I love to read on my back patio, experiment with essential oils, shop at Trader Joes and go for the occasional run outdoors!

Favorite food: Coffee in ALL forms: hot, iced, deaf, sweetened, unsweetened...any way it comes! I was recently given a cappuccino maker and now I am obsessed with making the perfect cappuccino!

Favorite Park/Trail: Asa Bales is my favorite park. It wins in my book because most of our events currently take place here. I know more about the terrain of this park than I do about my own backyard. I really appreciate the flow of the park and I think it has several fun amenities that make it great for any age!

Kelley Wells, Community Event Manager

"I grew up in Westfield and love that I get to work for the city that I was raised in. I received my degree in Tourism & Event Management from Indiana University - Go Hoosiers! I worked in the hotel industry for four years doing event management, sales and catering before coming to the City in 2015."

How long you have worked for the City: It will be two years in April - time flies when you’re having fun!

What I enjoy about my job: I love that I get to be creative and plan events that bring our community together. It is so rewarding to see families and friends enjoying time together and creating memories.

Hobbies: I enjoy reading, traveling with my husband and our friends, and spending time at our family lake house on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse. My husband and I are huge animal lovers; we have rescued three dogs and volunteer for an organization called Lucky Lab Rescue. Remember: Adopt, Don’t Shop! And check out our Barktoberfest event coming this October, we’ll have all kinds of activities for you and your 4-legged friends.

Favorite food: Chips and salsa!

Favorite Park/Trail: I have a special place in my heart for Liberty Park. My husband and I took pictures at the little gazebo and on the boardwalk on our wedding day (in the cold…and rain…but it was worth it!).

Peter Erotas, Community Outreach Manager

"I'm an Indy kid that moved to Westfield three years ago to start raising my family here. I am completely in love with the Westfield community and so happy to be a part of it! I joined the Westfield Parks team with a strong background in non-profit fundraising and community leadership."

How long you have worked for Westfield: I'm the newest team member, coming on board in November 2016. Before working here, I worked for the Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation.

What I enjoy about my job: I am responsible for seeking sponsorships and volunteers for our fantastic community events. What I enjoy most about my job is that fact that I am a Westfield resident and actively working to better my own community. I also like the trees.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my family and children, especially at our parks. I am also a little bit of a geek when it comes to comic books and video games. Please don’t ask me about it, I'll never stop talking.

Favorite food: I'm a huge fan of Greek cuisine. I also will eat anything if it is spicy enough.

Favorite Park/Trail: Simon Moon Park, also known as the "party park" by my three and a half year old son.
